This morning, I was riding in a taxi and chatting with the driver. He was Afghani; from Kabul. (He loves his country, but says that things are horrible now–no food at all. They are better, he says, than under the Taliban–”under the Taliban we had no food and no water and no roads–now, at least we have water and roads!,” but not very good still.)
He then says, “you guys have a vote coming up in America!” I said we did. He said, “who do you support?” I told him I had volunteered for Obama. He responded, “Ahh…Obama. He is remarkable. It is amazing that even millions of white people are voting for him. You should be very proud of your country.”
Yes, I responded, I am.
